Flower Care and Orchid Care by The Hibiscus Room
Correct flower care and orchid care can make a dramatic difference to the lifespan of your cut flowers and plants. Applying these Flower Care and Orchid Care do's and don'ts by The Hibiscus Room will ensure that you get the most out of your wonderful cut flowers and plants!

Your flowers have been carefully nurtured, conditioned in our shop and lovingly hand arranged by one of our florists. Your flowers have been cared for at every stage of their journey to ensure they arrive in wonderful condition. Now it's your turn.

Many of your flowers will arrive in bud and these will open giving you maximum vase life.

By following our simple care instructions your flowers should last for at least 7 days.

Flower Care

Remove all packaging from around the flowers leaving the florist ribbon that keeps the flowers arranged.

Using sharp scissors snip 1-2 centimetres off the end of each stem

Remove any leaves that would be below the waterline of the vase

Using a clean vase, fill with fresh cool water. Following the instructions on the flower food sachet attached to the outer wrapping of the bouquet, add the flower food.

Place your flowers in the vase

Your flowers may drink plenty of water, especially if it is warm. Keep the water level topped up and change the water completely every 2-3 days.

Re-cut the stems each time you change the water.

Don't place you flowers near ripening fruit; Such fruit releases tiny amounts of ethylene gas which prematurely ages flowers. Dying flowers do the same so always remove them from the vase.

Don't Place flowers in a draught that may chill the flowers, or in bright sunlight which encourages bacteria to breed. Keep them away from over-warm central heating.

Don't Mix daffodils and narcissi with other flowers

Don't Put copper coins, aspirin, lemonade, or bleach in the water.

Care instructions for arrangements:

Upon receiving the arrangement, remove the flower food sachet and mix with cool water according to the instructions on the sachet. Pour into the oasis holding the flowers slowly and carefully allowing it to soak into the oasis block.

Keep the oasis block wet adding fresh cool water every 2 - 3 days

Orchid plant care (PHALAENOPSIS or Moth Orchid)

Correct Orchid plant care will ensure these beautiful plants flower for many months providing wonderful colour and form.

Phalaenopsis orchids are tolerant of central heating making them ideal house plants.

To ensure your plant flowers for as long as possible follow these simple Orchid plant care do's and don'ts from The Hibiscus Room.

Do keep in a warm room with diffused sunlight. Minimum temperature 18c (65f) maximum temperature 30c (85f)

Do water every 7 - 12 days depending on the room temperature.

Do add Orchid Plant fertiliser to the water ever 2-3 waterings

Do use a water atomiser to ensure the aerial roots receive moisture

Do Not allow any standing water to form in the pot. All water must drain through the plant and its' roots.

Do Not place plants in a draught that may chill the flowers, or in direct bright sunlight.

Do Not re-pot the plant into a larger container as Phalaenopsis orchids like to be constricted in small pots such as the one supplied.

As the flowers begin to die and while the sap is still rising up the stem, select the highest node up the stem but below the flowers and snip clean through the stem with sharp scissors.

The stem will then produce new shoots that in turn will flower.

During this dormant period when there are no flowers, water the plant as if it were flowering and feed with orchid food monthly.
