Hereford Wedding; Choosing the right wedding bouquet
Choosing the right bouquet can be a stressful experience. Choose correctly and you'll have the perfect accessory on your wedding day. Make a mistake and you'll be forced to relive your crime every time you walk past your wedding photos!

When choosing your bridal bouquet do you opt for the simple elegance of a white calla lily, the classic romance of an open rose or the modern vibrancy of a gloriosa lily? The combinations of colour and texture combined with the bouquet style will set the theme of your wedding. From country garden classic to sleek modern and minimal, use your bridal bouquet to accessorise your dress and make a statement.

Don't forget that after all the advice you have received from friends and family, it is YOUR WEDDING! You should choose the bouquet that you want, in the colour and style that you want to hold as you walk down the aisle.

Important questions to ask

To help make the right decision begin by asking yourself the following questions:
  • What is my colour theme; are you looking for the classic white wedding, bright and funky, girly pinks, cool blues, shabby chic or New England pastels.

  • What are my favourite flowers; you may choose flowers that have a special meaning to you, those that you have always loved or those that are in fashion.

  • What flowers will be in season; whether it's Tulips in April, peonies in May or Red roses at Christmas all have a wonderful seasonal appeal. Seasonal flowers will often be cheaper and their colours deeper and more powerful. Equally, trying to force flowers that are out of season into your plans can be expensive and deliver poor quality blooms that are a shadow of themselves in season.

The consultation

Many brides will bring photos or pictures cut from magazines highlighting styles, colours and flowers that they want included in their bouquet. This is always a great help to your florist and will ensure that you get your ideas across without any misunderstandings.

Expect to discuss the style of bouquet you would like in comparison with your dress and your body shape.

Petite brides may use trailing foliage to accentuate their height.

Curvaceous brides in a classic A-line skirt may choose a bouquet with plenty of movement using mixed foliages and floaty grasses.

Brides in a sleek, skimming dress often choose flowers with simple lines like calla lilies or phaleonopsis orchids mixed with the lush greens of tropical grasses and foliages.

Of course these are just a few examples and every bride will have different preferences and ideas.

Find a florist with a passion for design!

Look for a florist with a passion for design and a commitment to helping you make the right decision. Find a florist who listens to what you want and never accept a pricelist detailing what other brides had. Your bouquet should be unique and express everything you feel about your wedding day. Make sure you receive a quote detailing exactly what will be in your bouquet, how it will look and the type of detail you want.

The Devil is in the detail

Many brides will bring photos or pictures cut from magazines highlighting styles, colours and flowers that they want included in their bouquet. This is always a great help to your florist and will ensure that you get your ideas across without any misunderstandings.

Don't forget your maids!

Now you have chosen your bouquet it is time to consider the maids. Think about the colour of your dress and those of your maids. How old are they? Do you intend them to be carrying anything down the aisle such a handbag, wand or fan? Perhaps they are young and will need to be holding some ones hand?

Here are a few ideas to consider:
  • Posy bouquet; in the bridal theme picking out one colour or a feature flower.
  • Wrist corsage; gerberas or orchids look great and work well on the wrist.
  • Flower and petal baskets; small baskets decorated in ribbon and flowers for little ones to hold.
  • Wands; perfect for little fairies! They can be decorated with flowers and ribbon.
  • Wrapped stems; simple stems tied together with ribbon or raffia.

What about the boys?

Buttonholes look great whether they are dressed in smart morning suits or relaxed linen suits. Usually a single flower is chosen from the bridal bouquet. The single flower is wired and foliage and grasses are attached to complete a feature piece that will compliment any groom or usher! Men's buttonholes are worn on the left hand side.

Corsages

Ladies within the wedding party normally wear a corsage. These can be worn on clothing or take the form of a wrist or handbag corsage. Many ladies choose accessories including beads, feathers, sparkles, skeleton leaves or even butterflies. Normally attached using a brooch pin, magnets and ribbon can also be used. A good florist will help you understand all the options available to you and how best to attach your chosen design.
